Street Football | Municipality Team Wins FairPlay Trophy

The Municipality of Oliveira do Bairro participated in the district phase of the 2025 National Street Football Tournament, which took place on July 5th in Taboeira – Aveiro.

The team from Bairrada, consisting of Adolfo, Adolfo Mariano, José, Sérgio, and Tomás, won the 2025 FairPlay Team Cup, for demonstrating the inherent values of the competition: non-violent communication, respect, conflict resolution, and resilience.
Jorge Pato, Vice-President of the Oliveira do Bairro City Council and responsible for the Social Cohesion and Housing portfolios, expressed his "enormous satisfaction with the team’s performance," stating that they won, in his opinion, "the most important trophy in dispute, due to their exemplary behavior both on and off the field."
The five young men, residents of Oiã and sons of beneficiaries of the social project "Uma Casa para (onde) Mudar" (A Home to (where) Change), promoted by the municipality of Oliveira do Bairro, received a Certificate of Participation, a medal, and a complete kit of the Portuguese National Football Team.
In the morning, players from all teams participated in the workshop of the "MOVE-TE, Faz Acontecer" (MOVE YOURSELF, Make It Happen) Initiative, promoted jointly with the Youth in Action Program and the PNED – National Plan for Ethics in Sport, which addressed the skills and values essential for the empowerment process of the tournament participants.
The competition itself took place in the afternoon, with games full of energy, team spirit, and stories of overcoming challenges, in an atmosphere of great conviviality and sharing.
At the end of the competition, the joy of the players from the Oliveira do Bairro team was more than evident, and this was, according to the mayor, "another reason to recognize that the objectives we had set for this activity were fully achieved, and these involved promoting integration and the development of social skills through new experiences and contexts." This project is also, according to Jorge Pato, "a way to combat stigmas and stereotypes targeting more vulnerable communities and a driver of change and transformation of mindsets, based on solidarity and respect for others."
The Grand National Final of the 2025 National Street Football Tournament will be held in the city of Beja, between July 23rd and 27th.
The Street Football project promotes sports practice as an innovative strategy for social intervention and the acquisition of personal and social skills, essential for empowerment and social integration. In Portugal, this project has been promoted by the CAIS Association since 2004, in partnership with numerous public and private entities.
"Uma Casa para (onde) Mudar" is a project that aims to support homeless people in Oliveira do Bairro. The project, co-financed by CENTRO 2030, is based on close monitoring focused on empowering individuals for their full integration.
